People Mover's Grand Circus Park Station Reopens

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit People Mover passengers traveling through Grand Circus Park were greeted by a newly renovated station on Saturday.

With the modifications, the People Mover system is now 100 percent handicap-accessible. It features a contemporary design, a 21-passenger elevator, as well as a secured interior entrance for the David Whitney Building.

"The DTC is delighted with the reopening of the station and excited to offer both independent access to the station from the David Whitney Building, and a return to the service and convenience our patrons are accustomed," DTC General Manager Barbara Hansen said. "We look forward to Grand Circus Park Station once again serving as a connectivity point for the Central Business District."

The station closed in August to begin the extensive project which included demolition on three levels and rebuilding from the basement up to the platform level.
