Elderly Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Passing Vehicle Along 23 Mile Road

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Authorities say an elderly pedestrian who was struck by a passing vehicle along 23 Mile Road has died.

The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday on 23 Mile Road at the I-94 overpass in Chesterfield Township.

Police say a 74-year-old Chesterfield Township man was walking along eastbound 23 Mile Road when he was struck by a passing vehicle.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, who was uninjured, stopped at the scene and was questioned by police.

Investigators say speed, drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Police say it's unusual for pedestrians to be walking in the area and they're not sure what he was doing there.

The road was shut down for about an hour as police investigated the scene, but has since reopened.
