Pedestrian Struck And Killed By Vehicle In Southwest Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway in Detroit after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed on Saturday.

It is believed that the driver of the car hit the victim, slammed into a fire hydrant, then took off on foot at the intersection of Vernor Highway and Waterman Street on the city's southwest side.

Detroit Police Spokesman Adam Madera told WWJ Newsradio 950's Lauren Barthold what police know about the incident.

"It happened around 4 p.m. when the driver of the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed, lost control of the vehicle, spun out and hit a fence and then struck the victim," Madera said.
