Pedestrian Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver On Detroit's West Side

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities are looking for a driver who fled the scene after fatally striking a pedestrian on Detroit's west side.

The accident happened around 8:45 p.m. Thursday on Meyers Road near Puritan Avenue, not far from the Lodge Freeway.

Police say a 42-year-old man was trying to cross Meyers when he was struck by an SUV that was traveling northbound. After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene.

The man was fatally wounded. His name has not yet been released.

Police are checking for security video in the area to see if they can learn more about the suspect's vehicle. Investigators say vehicle involved was 2007-2010 Saturn Outlook SUV, unknown color. The vehicle is expected to have front-end damage.
