Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Car In Warren

WARREN (WWJ) - A man struck by a car while crossing Van Dyke Road Wednesday afternoon has died.

The 78-year-old man, whose name has not been released, died shortly after he was struck while crossing the busy road in Warren with his wife.

Deputy Warren Police Commissioner Matt Nichols says it happened about 2:30 p.m.

"A husband and wife dropped their car off at a repair facility at Van Dyke south of 14 Mile -- they then tried to cross Van Dyke to go to Subway -- to get something to eat, while the repairs were being done," said Nichols. "They made it just about across the street -- the wife made it onto the curb -- and the husband was about one-stride away from the curb when he was struck."

Nichols says the pick up driver didn't see the man and was devastated by the accident.

A police officer nearby performed CPR, but as unable to save the victim.

An investigation into the accident continues.
