Pedestrian Injured By Hit-And-Run Driver On 8 Mile Road

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are searching for a woman who fled the scene of an accident after striking a pedestrian with her vehicle on Detroit's west side.

The accident happened Thursday morning on eastbound 8 Mile Road at Greenfield Road. Police said it appears the man was walking across the street when he was struck.

Keith Christian, a shuttle bus driver for the Center for Senior Independence, came upon the scene shortly after the accident and saw the man lying in the roadway. He then used his bus to block the road, shielding the victim from traffic.

"I didn't want to see the guy get hit. I just stayed with the guy until EMS came," Christian told WWJ's Ron Dewey. "It's just unfortunate that people are not caring enough to stop when somebody is hit. It's becoming like an epidemic right now out here in the city."

The victim was rushed to the hospital, although his current condition is unknown.

Police say the woman was driving a gray 4-door sedan, possibly a Pontiac Grand Prix or Grand Am.

An investigation is ongoing.
