Student Struck By Car Outside Southfield-Lathrup High School

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Authorities say a teenager is recovering after being struck by a vehicle in front of an Oakland County high school.

The accident happened Thursday morning near a bus stop outside of Southfield-Lathrup High School, on 12 Mile Road just east of Evergreen Road.

The victim, identified as a 16-year-old boy, was lying in the eastbound lanes of 12 Mile in front of a small compact car when WWJ's Marie Osborne happened to be passing the scene.

Police say the boy, a student at the high school, was apparently trying to cross the road when he was struck. According to police, a driver in one vehicle saw the boy and swerved, but the next car couldn't avoid striking him.

The teen was transported to a local hospital in stable condition with minor injures. Officials say he's expected to be released Thursday afternoon.

The driver stopped at the scene and was questioned by police, but is not expected to face any charges.
