Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle, along Carpenter Road in Pittsfield Township

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday evening in Pittsfield Township in southeast Michigan, local police report. 

The accident happened about 7:40 p.m. in the area of Carpenter Road and Packard Road in Washtenaw County. At the time of the crash, it was raining and the roads were wet, the Pittsfield Township Police and Fire Department said in its report. Sunset had occurred about 6:30 p.m.  

The pedestrian, a 42-year-old man from Washtenaw County, was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said. 

The driver of the Ford Escape, a 44-year-old man from Ypsilanti, was not injured. 

Police said the Ford driver was southbound on Carpenter Road, and had a green signal as it traveled through the intersection. The pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing, crossed Carpenter Road in front of the vehicle and was struck. 

The intersection and nearby section of Carpenter Road, both northbound and southbound, was closed for several hours as a result of the accident and investigation. 

The Pittsfield Township Police Crash Investigation Unit continues to investigate the crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Pittsfield Police.
