Patterson Talks Property Tax Cuts, Possible Run For 7th Term
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson delivered his State of the County Address Tuesday night, with promises of a property tax cut that he says will save homeowners in the county $75 million dollars over the next decade.
"How can we do this when other governments are struggling? You've heard me say it time and time again at my state of the county addresses; we exercise thoughtful management, not crisis management," said Patterson.
Patterson said the proposed cuts would be 1.5 mills over 2 years.
He spoke with caution when discussing the topic of the planned Great Lakes Water Authority - the successor to the Detroit Water and Sewer Board
"The devil is in the details, when you hear the GLWA (Great Lakes Water Authority) is developing just fine, everybody is on board and it's kumbaya, I guess I'm hear tonight to say 'slow down.'"
He referenced with humor his ongoing recovery from an auto accident in 2012.
"Every session my trainer wants me to warm up by touching my toes, and I tell him ... if God wanted me to touch my toes, he would have put them on my knees," said Patterson.
Speaking before a packed house at the Marriott Centerpointe in Pontiac, Patterson said he wouldn't bet against running for a seventh term as county executive.
