Patrols Work To Crack Down On Rowdy Behavior On Muskegon River

WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (AP) - Authorities plan Muskegon River patrols again as part of an effort to crack down on drunken, rowdy and illegal behavior.

MLive.com reports officials say the Muskegon River Multi Agency Enforcement Task Force has reduced the number of citations and arrests since the initiative began in 2014. The task force includes sheriff's deputies, state troopers, conservation officers and Newaygo police.

Newaygo County Sheriff Pat Hedlund says the group handed out 54 citations and made 63 arrests in 2015. In 2014, officers had 136 arrests and court-appearance citations.

Authorities and people living along the Muskegon River for years have dealt with problems with nudity, public intoxication and lewd behavior from people using the river. On busy summer days, police patrol the water in boats and in marked cruisers along the river.
