Parole Absconder Dead After 'Wild' Police Chase, Shooting

BLOOMFIELD HILLS (WWJ) - A wanted suspect is now dead after leading a police chase through two counties that ended in a crash and a shooting.

The situation unfolded just before midnight Wednesday near 12 Mile and Mound roads when police in Warren started pursuing a man who was wanted on a parole violation and making threats with a firearm.

Troy police attempted to stop the suspect at I-75 but he shot at the officers, striking the cruiser at least once, according to police. The suspect fled northbound on I-75, where Bloomfield Hills police picked up the pursuit.

The suspect eventually crashed into another vehicle at Woodward and Square Lake Road and then fled on foot. A motorist in the other vehicle was injured, but is expected to recover.

As officers closed in on foot, police say the suspect pointed a gun at them, forcing them to shoot. The suspect was mortally wounded. Police say his name is not being released at this time.

No officers were injured during the incident.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by Warren Police Department along with Oakland County Sheriff's Department.
