Parents Charged After Allegedly Dropping Dead Baby Off At Detroit Hospital

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Two Detroit parents have been charged after their deceased baby was dropped off at a hospital on the city's east side.

Lorenzo Brooks, 30, and Leticia Molton, 38, were charged Friday with involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse after one of the parents allegedly rolled on the 11-month-old boy while he was asleep in the bed with them.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Molton woke up and discovered the infant unresponsive before Brooks took the infant to St. John's Hospital just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

"There are babies in this county dying that should not be dying," Worthy said in a press release. "Unsafe sleep practices can be just as fatal to a baby as a gun or knife. The alleged actions of both parents in this case are criminal -- they knew their alleged actions could result in the death of their child."

The two are expected to be arraigned Saturday in 34th District Court in Romulus.
