Panicked Woman Drives Car Into Macomb Township Thai Restaurant

MACOMB TWP. (WWJ) - One person was injured when a Macomb Township woman drove her car into a Thai restaurant Monday evening.

The 42-year-old driver told Macomb County Sheriff's deputies that she thought she'd put her Kia in park when she pulled up to Ban Thai, on Romeo Plank Road in Macomb Township, to pick up dinner — but it was still in drive.

She said "she panicked" and hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, sending her car crashing through the glass storefront into the restaurant.

Several people were inside the business at the time of the accident, officials said.

A 64-year-old man was taken to Henry Ford Macomb hospital after flying glass hit him in the eye.

The woman was cited by deputies for careless driving and for a handicap parking violation. Her car needed to be towed from the scene due to damage sustained in the crash.

The restaurant was boarded up Monday morning.  [See a photo by the Macomb Daily].

No names were released.
