Paddle Race Around Belle Isle Planned For August

DETROIT (AP) - A 5-mile paddle race around Detroit's Belle Isle is planned for next month.

Called the Once Around Bell Isle Festival, the Aug. 9 event also will include live music, craft beer, food trucks and local vendors.

OABI organizers call it the first-ever paddle race and festival of its kind to take place in Detroit.

Attendees will be able to check out an array of stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and crew rowing equipment. They also can participate in Paddlerama, a series of on-site classes, demonstrations, contests and sprint competitions along the shores of Belle Isle Beach.

The cost for Paddlerama and general event admission is $15 in advance and $25 at the door. The cost for the OABI race, Paddlerama and general event admission is $35.
