Oversize Load Smashes Into US-23 Overpass; Freeway Closed

FENTON (WWJ) - Authorities say US-23 could be closed for quite some time while crews inspect the safety of the road after a truck carrying an oversize load smashed into an overpass.

MDOT spokesperson Joselyn Hall  said the accident happened around 7 a.m. Friday on southbound US-23 just south of Thompson Road, near Fenton.

"The US-23 overpass had been struck by an oversize load, so at this time the road is closed until we're able to clear the scene and then have inspectors review the condition of the road," she said.

Hall said  there were no injuries, but the closure could last through the morning.
