Opening Event Set At Tech Center For M-1 Rail Line

DETROIT (AP) — An opening event is planned for a multimillion dollar Tech Center at the northern end of Detroit's light rail line.

The Penske Tech Center will function as the headquarters for M-1 Rail, the operating organization for the QLINE, as well as the maintenance and storage facility for streetcars.

The opening event is Tuesday featuring its namesake Roger Penske, a racing team owner and businessman who is a member of M-1's board.

Office staff members already moved into the facility.

Officials have said light-rail passenger service should begin in spring 2017. The $140 million project will extend 3.3 miles from Detroit's downtown riverfront.
