One Year Old Child - And Carseat - Reported Missing After Detroit Carjacking; Mother Later Recants

DETROIT (WWJ) Police were searching Detroit for a one-year old child, who was allegedly the victim of a carjacking -- before the mother changed her story and said the child wasn't taken.

Detroit Police Officer Adam Madera tells WWJ a woman had stopped at a Citgo gas station on Grand River near Fenkell, around midnight, when three men approached her, and announced a carjacking.

There were three kids in her red Jeep Cherokee at the time. The suspects took the vehicle, with the kids inside. Two of the kids were later found safe, police said. A short time later, police recovered the Jeep, and arrested one suspect.

But the one-year old baby and the child's car seat were missing, she said. After a frantic search with K-9 units, the mother admitted that she'd left her third child at a relative's home.
