Officials ID Woman Who Froze To Death In Garden City Backyard

GARDEN CITY (WWJ) - Officials have identified the woman who was found with a dog in the backyard of a home in Garden City.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Officer said the body of 53-year-old Tina Crosson, of Canton Township, was identified by her husband.

The autopsy results are pending, although sources say preliminary results show there was no foul play — Crosson apparently froze to death.

Crosson's body was discovered around 10 a.m. Tuesday by a homeowner in the 29000 block of Alvin, near Merriman and Cherry Hill.

Charles Wood, who found Crosson, said he heard a dog barking in his backyard and then saw a body lying by his fence.

"At first, you know, I almost thought it was somebody playing like a Halloween prank on me — I know it's kinda cold to say that now, but…I thought that it was maybe a scarecrow or something in the backyard," Wood told WWJ.

When Wood approached and learned it was indeed a dead body, he called 911.

Police said a microchip in the dog's neck helped lead to the tentative identification Crosson, who has family ties to the area where she was found.

An investigation is ongoing.
