Officer Fatally Shoots Man After Traffic Stop Near Lansing

LANSING TOWNSHIP (AP) — Police say an officer fatally shot one of three men after their car was pulled over in a Lansing suburb.

Lansing Township police Chief Kay Hoffman said at a news conference Monday that she doesn't know if the dead man was armed. She isn't commenting on the races of those involved other than to say the dead man was "non-African American."

The chief also wouldn't give the reason for the traffic stop, which happened about 1:30 p.m. The Lansing State Journal says state police are handling the investigation.

Hoffman says one officer in a marked patrol car pulled over the men's car and another officer also arrived. She won't say which officer fired and says both are on paid leave.

The site is in Ingham County, just outside Michigan's capital.
