CBS DETROIT - New York Giants rookie Odell Beckham Jr. will take the spot of injured Detroit Lions veteran Calvin Johnson in this season's Pro Bowl, the league announced Wednesday.

Johnson missed three games with an ankle injury this season but had played in nine straight games - including Sunday's playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys - since sitting out for more than a month during the first half of the season.

Beckham recorded better numbers this season than Johnson, and he did so in fewer games. Beckham finished his debut season with 91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns, including a stunning one-handed grab that transfixed the sports world. Beckham played in 12 games, becoming the go-to wide receiver only after Victor Cruz was lost to injury.

Johnson had another 1,000-yard receiving season, par for the course for a future Hall of Fame selection. He snagged 71 catches for 1,077 yards and eight touchdowns.

Johnson put up those numbers as Golden Tate blossomed alongside him. Tate amassed more receiving yards than even Beckham, finishing the season with 1,331 yards and four touchdowns on 99 catches.

Along with Johnson, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and safety Glover Quin were also named to the Pro Bowl this year.
