Obama To Speak In Warren On Wednesday

WARREN (WWJ) -- Another presidential visit is planned for metro Detroit next week. President Barack Obama will speak at Macomb Community College in Warren Wednesday where he is expected to talk about the importance of investing in technical skills and growing the economy.

Jill Biden -- vice president Joe Biden's wife -- will accompany the president, who has been to Michigan 15 times since taking office in 2008.

Mayor Jim Fouts said he's honored to have the president in his town, especially to talk about the benefits of a community college education.

"He's coming to talk about investing in skills and growing the economy via education," Fouts said. "I know that Dr. Jill Biden is from the community college, she's a big supporter of the community college."

Obama was last in metro Detroit in January when he stopped by Ford's Michigan Assembly plant.

Fouts said that he plans to personally thank the president for relief efforts that benefited Warren after torrential rains flooded the area in 2014, causing millions of dollars worth of damage.

"It's an opportunity for me, number one, to thank the president on the emergency declaration that literally saved people in Warren. We had thousands of people who got financial aid from FEMA to the tune of nearly $10 million."
