Oakland U Hires Konya To Be Athletic Director

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Oakland University has hired Jeffrey F. Konya as its new athletic director.

The school announced the move Monday. It takes effect Aug. 11. Konya is currently the athletic director at Cal State Bakersfield, where he has worked since 2010.

Robby Stewart had been Oakland's interim athletic director since Feb. 1, when Tracy Huth left the position.

Betty Youngblood, Oakland's interim president, says Konya is a veteran leader with a record of "progressively increased leadership responsibilities."

Konya says it's his responsibility to create an environment for athletes to be successful academically, athletically and socially.
