Oakland County Teens Wanted In Theft Of ATVs From School Grounds

SOUTH LYON (WWJ) - Oakland County authorities are searching for two teens who allegedly took a pair of stolen ATVs on a joy ride early Wednesday morning.

Sheriff's officials say the suspects, who are believed to be between 14 and 17 years, drove off in the off-road vehicles that belong to the maintenance crew at South Lyon East High School, located in the 52000 block of 10 Mile Road in South Lyon.

Deputies caught sight of the suspects at around 3:30 a.m. and tried to stop them. When a chase ensued, one of the ATVs ended up in a pond — but the young thieves ran into the woods behind the school.

A K-9 unit was dispatched, but the teens couldn't be located. They're wanted on a charge of unlawful driving away of an automobile.

The two ATVs, which school officials say were taken from a gated utility area, were impounded and the incident was referred to detectives with the OCSO auto theft unit.

One of the suspects is described a black male teen wearing all black. There was no description available of the second suspect.  They both remained at large later Wednesday.
