Oakland County Man Accused Of Shooting Wife Arrested After Standoff

PONTIAC (WWJ) - An Oakland County man is behind bars after he allegedly shot his wife and then barricaded himself inside their home.

Neighbors called 911 after hearing gunshots and a woman scream at around 8:15 p.m. Sunday in the  in the 100-block of Frick Road near Rochester Road in Addison Township.

Oakland County Sheriff's officials say the suspect and his wife, who were married for about five months, were having marital problems — which led to him shooting her three times.

When deputies arrived at the home they were able to get the victim to safety, but the suspect allegedly threatened suicide and wouldn't come out of the house.  Sheriff's Office SWAT negotiators were eventually able to talk him into surrendering without any more shots fired.

An investigation revealed that the man had fired multiple gunshots; and, at one point during the incident, he
held the gun to his wife's head. A semi-automatic .32 caliber pistol was recovered at the scene, Sheriff's officials said.

The victim — who had gunshot wounds to the stomach, leg, and hand —  is recovering from surgery, listed in serious condition on Monday.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released pending formal charges, is lodged at the Oakland County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
