Oakland County Gears Up For $55M In Road Repairs This Year

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Drivers in Oakland County can expect to see plenty of orange barrels this summer.

The Road Commission for Oakland County has $55 million worth of road construction on tap for the 2015 construction season -- ranging from road widenings and gravel road paving to resurfacing projects, bridge maintenance and culvert replacements and repairs.

Many of the roads were selected for improvement based on pavement condition and traffic volume. Among the projects is continued work on the roundabout at the Orchard Lake- 14 Mile intersection, resurfacing of Lahser Road between 13 Mile and Maple Road in Bloomfield Township, and new improvements at the Sashabaw and I-75 interchange in northern Oakland County.

RCOC Commissioner Greg Jamian said the $55 million investment in transportation infrastructure will help to ensure that Oakland County remains a great place to live and do business.

"Good roads impact quality of life and help to engender a positive business environment," Jamian said in a statement. "We are committed to both of those."

Work will start on some projects as early as late March. Others will start at various points throughout the construction season. The majority of projects planned for 2015 will be paid for primarily with federal funds and the Tri-Party Program.
