Oakland County Sheriff's deputy fired for soliciting sex from teen girl online
(CBS DETROIT) - An Oakland County Sheriff's deputy has been fired after allegations he was trying to solicit sex from a teenager online.
The former deputy hasn't been named, but he remains under investigation and could be criminally charged.
"This was a five-month probationary employee that clearly didn't live up to the ethic, standard and judgment that we expect from our employees and he's no longer employed here," said Sheriff Michael Bouchard of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
The allegations first came to light when a man from Pontiac, who attempts to lure child sex predators online, posted their conversations on social media. Robert Lee posed as a 15-year-old girl when he connected with the former deputy on an app called Whisper.
"In the beginning, he was trying to play it safe by just having regular conversation by trying to not to say too much sexual stuff," Lee said. "The next day as he got a little bit more comfortable that's when he started to get a bit more vulgar."
Sheriff Bouchard said the former deputy worked at the county jail in the corrections division.
He said charges could be brought against the former deputy as soon as Wednesday.
