20-Year-Old Man Arrested After Standoff With Novi Police

NOVI (WWJ) - A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody by Novi police after a standoff Thursday, in the area of 10 Mile and Haggerty Road.

Police said some residents in the immediate area were evacuated and others were sheltering in place as officers surrounded a residence, in the 24000 block of Olde Orchard, west of Haggerty, to deal with a "barricaded gunman."

Officers responded the scene at 9:48 a.m. Shortly after 12:30 p.m., police said the situation had been resolved.

Police did not report any shots fired and there were no injuries, although police said they did believed the young man was armed. They said he was apparently alone in the house during the standoff.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area, but police now say the scene is secure.

Details as to what led to the standoff are unclear at this time. The man's name has not been released, pending any formal charges.
