Northville Condos Go Up In Flames

NORTHVILLE (WWJ) - Several families have been burned out of their homes following a fire overnight in Northville.

Officials say the fire started Tuesday night at the two-story Fairbrook Condominium Complex on 7 Mile Road, between Beck and Sheldon roads. Firefighters were called back to the building early Wednesday morning after wind rekindled hot spots on the second floor.

Resident Kirsten Poushey said she returned home from dining out to see the building in flames. She told WWJ's Mike Campbell she sprung into action to help save a neighbor.

"I had to catch a man, a man, falling out of his window, because it had just erupted when we got home. He had to jump because he couldn't get down the stairway because of the smoke. And then my husband knocked on everybody's door to get them out as well," she said.

Officials said at least nine units caught on fire, but no one was injured. The building appears to be a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The American Red Cross has been notified to help displaced residents.
