Northbound I-75 In Detroit Still Closed After Tanker Fire

DETROIT (AP) — A section of Interstate 75 in downtown Detroit remains closed, a day after a tanker truck exploded and caught fire.

State police Lt. Michael Shaw says the tanker truck was carrying 9,000 gallons of unleaded fuel when it exploded about 8:45 a.m. Sunday.

The driver wasn't hurt, but the crash forced the closing of I-75 at I-375.

Shaw says northbound I-75 at the I-375 interchange remain closed Monday as the Michigan Department of Transportation assessed the fire damage and determines when it's safe to reopen it. Shaw says it's unclear how long the closing will last.

The lieutenant says the trucker told investigators mechanical problems caused his vehicle's back tires to lock and the tanker to overturn.
