Non-Lethal Bean Bag Rounds Used To Disarm Man With Knife

GRAND RAPIDS (AP) - Grand Rapids police say they used non-lethal bean bag rounds to get a man to drop a knife after he suggested he wanted officers to kill him.

Officers responded Thursday night following a domestic argument to check on the 58-year-old Grand Rapids man and tried to get him to come out of a house. Police say he twice emerged with a knife in his hand and wouldn't drop the weapon, so they used bean bag rounds to disarm him.

Police say the man was taken into protective custody and brought to a hospital as a precaution for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
