No Criminal Charges After Man Posts Video Of 160 MPH Joyride
PORTAGE (WWJ/AP) - A prosecutor says a southwestern Michigan man won't face reckless driving charges after police say he posted videos online of himself driving up to 160 mph on an area highway.
TV station WWMT aired videos of the man driving on U.S. highway 131 that were posted on a Facebook page, along with comments including "it was really closer to 150, the mustang frigging rocks."
Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting said there are no witnesses to the incident and the videos likely couldn't be admitted as evidence in court.
"The investigation has not established admissible evidence that proves the suspect's guilt of a criminal charge," Getting said in a statement.
Without more evidence, Getting said the driver could only face a traffic citation for careless driving, a civil infraction.
The man recorded himself at times driving with his knees. State police say the driving put the public in danger.
Police went to the man's home in Portage, where he offered "no excuse other than he likes to drive fast."
