Newborn Found In Shallow Grave Was A Boy; Parents May Face Charges

CLAY TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Investigators say a newborn found in a shallow grave in St. Clair County was a boy.

DNA results also confirmed that the woman who came forward shortly after the baby was found on April 27 is the child's mother.

The mother is a 30-year-old who lives in Clinton Township with the boy's 30-year-old father, Clay Township Police Chief Don Drake told the Times Herald of Port Huron. He said the parents cooperating with the investigation, and could face charges.

The infant's remains were discovered by a resident doing yard work for a neighbor in the 9300 block of Stone Road in Clay Township, about 35 miles northeast of Detroit.

Drake said their initial investigation showed the baby had been in the shallow grave for "a length of time." A medical examiner is investigating the child's cause of death.
