New Website Aims To Provide Safety Net For Gays To 'Come Out'

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - A University of Michigan alum is launching a website designed to help gays and lesbians "come out". Alex Gabriel says "Just Like You-dot-org" is all set to launch on April 14th.

He says even though it may be easier now than 20-years ago for some people to "come out" for many, it is a challenging proposition.

"The person who was kicked out of his house for being gay - I expect still has a very hard time dealing with that," says Gabriel. "Even in 2014, it is a big deal and we do see a need that people still are looking for a resource like this."

Gabriel says the site is free and can be utilized anonymously. "You'll remain anonymous until you chose not to be anonymous anymore."

He stresses it's not a dating site or "intervention or help site in the true sense of the word."

Gabriel says the campaign is in the process of raising money to support the site. He says people who test-marketed it gave it very high marks.
