Meijer Opens Doors On 2nd Detroit Store

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Midwest retailer Meijer Inc. has opened its second store in the city of Detroit.

Grand Rapids-based Meijer welcomed the first customers inside ahead of an official ribbon-cutting Thursday.

Construction started last year on the 190,000-square-foot store at the former Redford High School site on the city's west side, located along Grand River Avenue and McNichols Road just east of Lahser Road.

The supercenter is the latest of 11 new stores that Meijer is opening throughout the Midwest this year. The opening comes about two years after Meijer opened its first Detroit store at 8 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue in the Gateway Marketplace.
