New Detroit Mayor Faces Second Snow Hurdle Since Taking Office Days Ago
DETROIT (WWJ) - With a second snow storm on the way since Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan took office, he says they're prepared with 40 snow plows that'll be clearing snow. He notes that trash pick-up is behind schedule because of the first snow storm and they'll be on a holiday schedule this coming week.
"The same mechanics that are putting our snow removal vehicles on the road are also putting our trash removal vehicles on the road and now we're looking at having all of them on the road basically 24 hours a day for the next few days. So, we're gonna get through this and it's just gonna need a little bit of patience."
Duggan says if the snowfall exceeds six inches, they will call in some private contractors to help with snow removal.
Duggan says they're running on a holiday schedule for this next week, which means if your normal garbage pick-up is on Monday, it will be picked up on Tuesday.
"We are anticipating another significant snow storm and we want to get ahead of this, so for next week, on garbage removal, we're going on a holiday schedule as if Monday's a holiday, which means instead of putting your garbage out on Monday if Monday's your regular day, put it out on Tuesday."
Duggan says trucks will be on the road until everything is caught up - snow and trash removal.
