Muskegon Cop Shoots, Wounds Teen Girl During Domestic Call

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - A teenager has been wounded by a Muskegon police officer responding to a domestic dispute complaint at an apartment.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports that the teen suffered a gunshot to her leg Friday afternoon. Her name and age were not released.

Muskegon Police Chief Jeffrey Lewis says the officer "was involved in the domestic in progress."

Lewis tells the newspaper that the officer fired his weapon at the person police believe -- but are not certain -- was the aggressor.

Lewis says he didn't know if the officer was threatened or trying to protect someone else. The officer will be placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated by the state police.

The teen was being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.'
