3 dead, 2 injured in aftermath of house fire in Detroit

Three people are dead, and two others are injured in the aftermath of a house fire early Monday along Wildemere Street in Detroit's west side.

The location is just south of West Seven Mile Road, and Seven Mile Road was closed at Wildemere because of the emergency response. Helicopter views showed several Detroit Fire Department vehicles were on scene.

When the Detroit Fire Department arrived, they were told people were still trapped in the burning home, a fire department spokesperson said.

The initial report is that "multiple people" were transported to area hospitals, but the fire department later confirmed that there were fatalities. Those two people were found dead on the second floor of the house, one was a woman and the other a man.

Another person, a teenage girl who was pulled out of the home, died on the way to Sinai-Grace Hospital.

One person got out on their own and was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital, fire officials said. His injuries were not serious.

And the other injured person, an older woman, was rescued from the home. She is reported to be in critical condition at Detroit Receiving Hospital.

Fire officials said two dogs also survived the blaze. Detroit Animal Care & Control was called to assist with the animals.

The Detroit Fire Investigation Division will follow up on the investigation of the case.

"DFD's Personal Guidance Unit will follow up with crew members who worked this fire to assess and address any needs they may have. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families as they process this devastating tragedy," the fire department reported.
