MSU's Munn Ice Arena Evacuated Due To Chemical Leak

EAST LANSING (WWJ) - Michigan State University Police says a chemical release at Munn Ice Arena on campus has been contained.

It happened at around 1 p.m. Thursday.

"The arena was evacuated," said MSU Police Captain Doug Monett. "There was a little over half-a dozen people there. There are reports of no injuries."

Police asked people to avoid the area until further notice, and Chestnut Road was closed from Shaw Lane to Demonstration Hall Road as emergency responders were working to resolved the situation.

Monett said that there is no threat to the community.

He said police do not know exactly where in the hockey arena the leak occurred or what may have caused it. Some reports said it was an ammonia leak.

An investigation is underway.
