Motorcyclist Thrown From Bike, Seriously Injured In Overnight Crash; Police Say Alcohol A Factor

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Authorities say a motorcyclist who was thrown off his bike and seriously injured in a crash overnight might have been under the influence of alcohol.

The crash happened around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Cooley Lake Road and Switzerland Drive in Commerce Township.

According to police, the 24-year-old White Lake Township man was operating a 2013 Honda motorcycle westbound on Cooley Lake Road from Union Lake Road when he failed to negotiate a curve.

Police say the man drove off of the roadway and struck a mailbox and a cyclone fence, and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet.

After paramedics had stabilized the man, he was transported to Botsford Hospital in Farmington in serious condition.

According to police, alcohol may be a factor in the crash.

No other vehicles were involved, and no one else was injured.
