Motorcyclist Killed In High-Speed Crash With SUV On Gratiot

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police in Detroit are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on Monday night.

Detroit police tell WWJ Newsradio 950 that the crash took place in the area of Gratiot Ave. and Seven Mile Rd. just after 8:30 p.m.

The victim, a 23-year-old male, was driving the motorcycle northbound on Gratiot at a high rate of speed. A 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe changed lanes nearby and the motorcycle slammed into the passenger side before becoming trapped under the vehicle.

The 27-year-old female driver of the Tahoe was uninjured.

Preliminary investigation indicates that speed did play a factor in the crash.

Police say that northbound Gratiot will be closed for the investigation until after midnight.
