Motorcyclist Killed In Crash Was Thrown From Bike, Arm Severed

TROY (WWJ) - A 25-year-old motorcyclist who was reportedly driving erratically with two other "crotch rockets" was killed when he hit a curb and crashed in Troy.

The accident happened just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday on eastbound Big Beaver Road near Rochester Road.

Witnesses told police the three motorcyclists were driving erratically and weaving between vehicles before the victim lost control of his bike and hit a curb.

The victim, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown off his motorcycle, a 2001 Yamaha, and landed several feet away from the crash scene. Sources say he was launched into a road sign, which severed his arm. By the time officers arrived on the scene, he was dead.

No other injuries were reported.

Police say the victim's family members haven't been notified yet so his name is not being released, but he's from Romeo.

The accident remains under investigation. Police are looking to speak with any witnesses.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 248-524-3477.
