Motorcyclist Dies After Crashing Into Deer

VERMONTVILLE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Authorities say a 45-year-old motorcyclist who collided with a deer in Eaton County has died.

The accident happened just after 11 p.m. Wednesday on Ionia Road near Kelly Highway in Vermontville Township, about 30 miles west of Lansing.

Police say the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Ionia Road when he struck a deer. The man, who wasn't wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The man's name has not been released, but police say he's from Hastings.

Ionia Road was closed for nearly four hours as police investigated the scene, but has since re-opened.
