Motorcyclist Dies After Being Ejected In Chain-Reaction Crash
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Police say a 24-year-old motorcyclist has died after being involved in a multi-vehicle, chain-reaction crash.
The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. Thursday on 15 Mile Road near Moravian Drive, just east of Schoenherr Road in Sterling Heights.
Police say a 63-year-old Sterling Heights woman was driving a Chevrolet minivan eastbound on 15 Mile Road in the left through lane when she rear-ended a Honda motorcycle, driven by a 24-year-old Clinton Township man.
The collision caused the motorcyclist to be ejected from his bike onto the minivan's windshield, where he struck his head, according to police.
The motorcycle itself then struck the rear of a Dodge Caliber, driven by a 70-year-old Clinton Township woman. Her vehicle then rear-ended a Toyota Camry, driven by a 42-year-old St. Clair Shores man, which was about to accelerate through the green light in the right through lane.
The motorcyclist was rushed to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in critical condition. He died about five hours later.
The 70-year-old woman was also taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
