More Work Planned On Western Michigan Biking, Hiking Trail

LANSING (AP) -- State officials say work is resuming on improvements to one of Michigan's oldest rails-to-trails projects.

The William Field Memorial Hart Montague Trail State Park in western Michigan was developed in 1989. The 22.6-mile trail winds through rural and wooded terrain and through the communities of Hart, Mears, Shelby, New Era, Rothbury and Montague.

Improvements began last year and will be completed this summer. They include widening, resurfacing and improving bridge structures.

Funding sources include government programs and community contributions.
