More Detroit Businesses Join Project Green Light

DETROIT (AP) — Some businesses in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood have joined the city's Project Green Light commercial corridor program which uses high-definition exterior surveillance cameras to fight crime.

They join businesses in the Greektown entertainment district which joined the program earlier this year. Cameras installed on the exterior of buildings send live feeds to the police department's Real Time Crime Center.

Corktown businesses in the program include pubs, eateries and the Detroit Police Athletic League headquarters. They receive cameras, video storage and internet connections. The monthly cost is between $200 and $300 per business.

The program is an offshoot of Project Green Light which the city says started about three years ago with eight gas stations. It now includes 425 participating businesses across the city.
