'Modern Family' Co-Producer Speaks At College Commencement

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Eastern Michigan University alum and ABC's "Modern Family" co-producer Sally Young told students at her alma mater that they need to invest in themselves.

Young said Sunday during the Ypsilanti school's commencement ceremonies that their "trust fund" should include more than money. The Ann Arbor News reports  that she told students to cultivate good friends and health, as well as mentors, morals and the motivation to give back.

The goal, she says, is to "have a full tank" when life requires or offers change.

Young graduated from Eastern in 1972 and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Arts degree. The Emmy-winning "Modern Family" comedy series began its sixth season last fall.

Former Detroit Lions quarterback Charlie Batch spoke later. He played football at Eastern Michigan and graduated in 1997.
