Mobile Grocery Market Planned To Improve Flint Food Options

FLINT (AP) - A mobile grocery market is planned for Flint as part of an effort to improve healthy food options in the city.

Rick Sadler, a public health professor at Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine, used his mapping experience to figure out areas of Flint most in need of food shopping options. He also helped determine where residents might want a mobile market to stop.

Michigan State says the owners of a store called The Local Grocer will run the mobile market, which is planned to launch at the end of the month.

Efforts to improve nutrition in Flint have taken on more urgency amid the city's crisis with lead-tainted water.

Nutritious food can limit the effects of lead exposure. If consumed, lead can cause developmental delays and learning disabilities.
