Minivan Slams Into Stalled Garbage Truck In Oakland County, Killing 2, Hospitalizing 2

(WWJ) A minivan slammed into the back of a garbage truck in Oakland County leaving two Oxford Township residents dead and two others, including a five year old, hospitalized.

Sheriff's Department investigators say the garbage truck had mechanical issues and was stopped on Ray Road near Oxford Road. The driver of the 2003 Chrysler Town and Country minivan apparently didn't see it and crashed into it at about 8:30 p.m. Monday.

A 32-year old from Lapeer and the child are hospitalized, but are expected to survive, police said. The driver of the van, identified as a 43 year old from Oxford Township, and another 43 year old from Oxford Township, died.

The driver of the minivan was not wearing a safety belt, police said, and it's still unknown if the others were.

The garbage truck driver had minor injuries. No names are being released at this time.

At this time there are no indications that alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash, police said. The accident remains under investigation.
