'Mike Teavee' Still Loves The Cautionary Tale Of Willie Wonka

DETROIT (CBSDETROIT)

Was the candy real?

You can ask at the 25th Motor City Comic Con is this weekend in Novi. In addition to the comic book writers and illustrators, pop culture personalities both familiar and slightly more obscure will be popping up.

That includes Paris Themmen who played Mike Teavee in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He still likes his role as a cautionary tale to youngsters everywhere:

"I don't have kids, actually, but I hear from parents that they use Willy Wonka as a morality tale and I think it was intended as a morality tale- that's one of the things that makes people like it, you know, I hold their sentiment, 'don't be like me.'"

Did Themmen like the Johnny Depp remake?

"I try not to slam it myself too much, if you asked them they'd say it wasn't too much a remake - they are very careful to distance themselves from this movie - I thought they missed a lot of things that they could have done better."

The Motor City Comic-con is going on this weekend at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. And that's brought out all manner of celebrities.
