Miguel Cabrera Expected To Miss Up To 6 Weeks With Calf Strain

DETROIT (CBS Detroit/AP) — Miguel Cabrera left Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth inning with a strained left calf.

The team announced Saturday that the former MVP and Triple Crown winner will go on the 15-day DL for the first time in his career and miss up to six weeks with a Grade 3 calf strain.

The Tigers called up infielder Jefry Marte in a corresponding move.

Cabrera was on first base with no outs and a 3-2 count to Victor Martinez, and took off with the pitch. Martinez fouled the ball off, but Cabrera pulled up sharply, grabbing his left leg. He was attended to by trainers and limped off the field.

He was replaced by Andrew Romine with the Tigers leading 1-0, and Detroit said Cabrera will have an MRI.
